Chain Conveyor Monitoring

4B has a wide range of sensors for monitoring the various parts of your drag chain conveyor. The most common areas for monitoring include: bearing temperature, speed / motion, level / plug indication and slack/broken chain detection.

All of 4B's sensors can be connected to our hazard monitoring systems.

WDA3 Motion Alignment Sensor

4B WDA motion alignment sensor
WDA3 Motion Alignment Sensor

Non-contacting extended range magnetic proximity sensor, not affected by dust or material build up, used to detect moving ferrous material up to 100mm away from the sensor. The WDA sensor can be used on bucket elevators to measure speed and alignment by sensing either the metal elevator buckets, or the ferrous bolts attached to plastic buckets. A more specialized use for the WDA switch is as a broken/slack chain detector on drag chain conveyors, or as a non-contact speed switch for screw conveyors. The sensor is used in conjunction with a PLC or with 4B's Watchdog™ Elite or A400 Elite control units. Two output signals are provided: one signal is a pulse output, representing each bucket detected: the second signal is a continuous output when moving buckets are detected.

M1003 Stopswitch

M100 Stopswitch
M1003 Stopswitch

The M1003 Stopswitch is a simple inductive shaft speed monitoring device. The self-contained unit, which signals when the shaft has stopped rotating. It can be used for process control, motion detection and stopped shaft indication. An inductive sensing device located in the nose of the M100 enclosure will detect a metal target. This target can be an existing bolt head or device attached to a shaft. The M1003 Stopswitch requires no calibration and provides an output when the shaft has stopped rotating.

M800 Speed Switch

M800 Elite speed switch
M800 Speed Switch

The M800 Elite Speed Switch is designed to detect belt slip, belt underspeed, stop motion, low speed or zero speed on bucket elevators, conveyors, airlocks, mixers, fans, grinders and many other rotating machines. Totally sealed and simple to calibrate, the M800 Elite works in the harshest of conditions.

An inductive sensing device located in the nose of the M800 Elite enclosure will detect a metal target. This target can be an existing bolt head or device attached to a shaft. During installation the M800 Elite is set to the normal machine shaft RPM by calibrating with the magnet provided. The internal microprocessor sets the alarm and shutdown relays.

Whirligig®

4B Whirligig shaft sensor mount
Whirligig®

The Whirligig® is a fully guarded target for easy mounting of motion sensors. It is a universal shaft sensor mount suitable for all industry standard cylindrical or DIN style inductive sensors including 4B's M100, M300, and M800 speed switch sensors.

The sensor bolts to the Whirligig base plate and the complete assembly either bolts to the machines shaft through a M12 tapped hole, or is connected magnetically using 4B’s patented Mag-Con™ adaptor. Shaft or machine vibration does not affect the performance of the sensor, as the whole assembly moves with the shaft. With the Whirligig, installation of speed sensors is now simple, safe and reliable.

4B bearing temperature sensors

Overheated bearings are one of the main risk factors for dust explosions in bucket elevators and need to be closely monitored.
4B offers a range of Atex, CSA and IECEx certified bearing temperature sensors and compatible monitoring systems.
